Kevin McCullers ~ Voice & Piano

Mr. McCullers began his musical “career” around the age of 5 by walking up and down the streets of his Southern California neighborhood imitating the great operatic and movie tenor Mario Lanza, whose records he listened to extensively as a young boy.

Formal training began at age 9 with piano lessons, later adding voice in high school, where he accompanied one choir and sang bass lead in another. Kevin went on to study voice at Chapman College in Orange, California, where he received a bachelor’s degree in vocal music performance. During that time, Kevin sang in the by-audition-only College Singers, won first place in the Orange County Young Adults Vocal Competition at Cal State University Fullerton, and began to teach both voice and piano.

Other musical opportunities have included directing church, school and civic choirs, teaching elementary general music, and playing keyboard and singing back-up on church worship teams. One of the most fun opportunities was getting to play his dream role of Tevye, as the only adult in a youth production of Fiddler on the Roof.  Having recently retired from public school teaching, Kevin is excited to make music with students and colleagues here at Kat’s Artist Tree.
