Matthew is currently a trombonist and flutist with the 108th Army Band in Phoenix, Arizona and is an elementary school teacher, grades Kindergarten – 8th grade for the Dysart Unified School District at Kingswood Elementary School in Surprise, Arizona. Matthew has a lot of talent with helping students overcome a variety of struggles; specifically, how each student learns best in addition to becoming the stellar musician each student seeks to become.
In addition, to helping diverse students become successful, Mr. Tolman also plays saxophone, piano, organ, drums, baritone, tuba, trumpet, and guitar, and he is well versed in all of the band instruments, and composes music. Mr. Tolman also sings and plays guitar, and teaches choral, dance, ballet, guitar, and piano classes at Kingswood Elementary. Mr. Tolman writes his own choreography for his performances. In addition, Mr. Tolman has been a band, orchestra, choral, and guitar director in both Texas and Utah in addition to elementary school music. Mr. Tolman is fluent in French and studied at L’université La Rochelle, in La Rochelle, France. Mr. Tolman earned his associates of trombone performance at the US Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. He earned his AA in music education and French at Weber State University in Ogden Utah. He then earned his BA in music education at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. Subsequently, he earned two masters degrees in education and education psychology at the the University of Phoenix, (MAT/MEDL).
Mr. Tolman performed professionally as a trombonist in the Lagoon All-Star Band show band in Farmington, Utah at the Lagoon theme park. He also performed professionally as a trombonist for the Boogie Band at the Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, in Williamsburg, Virginia. While in Texas, Mr. Tolman performed trombone with the Ft. Bend Symphony Orchestra and performed with Christopher Cross and Brian Mitchell. In addition to these appointments, Mr. Tolman was a trombonist with the 56th Army Band at Ft. Lewis, Washington, the 23rd Army Band in West Jordan, Utah, and the 36th Infantry Division Band in Austin, Texas
