Jihyun Kim, better known as Joy, was born in South Korea and began studying piano at the age of five. During her teenage years, she received awards in several piano competitions in Korea. She later immigrated to the United States and studied piano performance with Dr. Sylvia Kahan at the College of Staten Island and Queens College of the City University of New York. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in Church Music from Midwest University.

Joy was presented in recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 1997 and 1998 as part of benefit concerts supporting disadvantaged children in North Korea. From 2004 to 2011, she served as the Executive Director of J.S.F Music & Arts in New York, where she coordinated concerts, marketing, scheduling, and community collaborations, including benefit concerts for World Vision and performances with local musicians and students.

With over 25 years of teaching experience, Joy has taught students of all ages, from young children to seniors. She is passionate about providing a well-rounded music education while encouraging each student’s individuality and personal musical interests. She believes music is a gift meant to bring joy, expression, and connection.

Outside of teaching, Joy enjoys hiking and exploring local restaurants in her free time. She is also currently serving on the worship team at Hope City Church in Surprise, Arizona.
